Behind the design

About the car

The Royale was Ettore Bugatti’s vision of extraordinary luxury. Its enormous straight-eight engine powered a car more than six metres long. The Coupé Napoleon even allowed its passenger to speak to the driver through an electrical intercom. The dancing-elephant ornament was designed by Ettore’s brother Rembrandt.
