Behind the design
The presidential X-100 began as a 1961 Lincoln Continental convertible. Hess & Eisenhardt lengthened and strengthened it for parade duties. Its original equipment included removable roof sections and a hydraulic rear seat that could raise the president for crowds to see. Later rebuilds substantially changed the car.
